Eugenia Rentería V.
Co-Founder & Executive Director
Eugenia is a Watsonville-based director, cinematographer, editor and film instructor. Born and raised in a rural community in Zacatecas, Mexico, she moved to California when she was 12 years old and that’s when her interest in filmmaking started. She attended CSU Monterey Bay and graduated with a B.A. in Cinematic Arts & Technology and also completed a Certificate of Achievement in Business and Digital Media. With expertise in video production, video editing, and digital media design, Eugenia is Inspira’s Executive Director, which she co-founded in 2016.
Miguel Silva
Associate Producer & Translator
Miguel graduated from California State University, Monterey Bay with a Bachelor of Arts in Cinematic Arts & Technology. He also graduated from Northern Illinois University with a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish Business Translation and is currently working in his Master’s program at San Jose State University. Miguel is Inspira’s Associate Producer & Translator.
Maria Cano
Associate Producer
Maria is a filmmaker and educator, born and raised in Jalisco, Mexico. She moved to California in 2003. Maria's work has been featured at the Crocker Art Museum, La Mujer Art Show, Good Day Sacramento, and the Watsonville Film Festival. Maria graduated from the Art Institute of California-Sacramento with a Bachelors of Science in Digital Film and Video Production. Through filmmaking, Maria wants to shine a light to her community’s stories as well as their struggles.
Carina R. Navarrete

Carina graduated from California State University, Monterey Bay with a Bachelors of Arts in Cinematic Arts and Technology and Business Marketing. Currently, Carina collaborates with Inspira on various projects.
Luci Basor
Collaborator
Luci graduated from University of California, Santa Cruz with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and minor in Education. She also graduated from Cal State TEACH and received her teaching credential for K-8 education. Currently, Luci teaches at a Watsonville middle school and collaborates with Inspira on different projects.
Brenda Avila-Hanna
Collaborator
Brenda is an award-winning filmmaker, video journalist and educator, born and raised in Mexico City. Her work has been showcased at HotDocs, Tribeca, Lakino Berlin, Frameline, Fusion Network and Cine Las Americas International Film Festival among others. Brenda is a recent Fellow for BAVC National MediaMaker, the National Minority Consortia Lab through LPB and the NALIP Media Market. She is also a member of New Day Films, an independent filmmaker collective. Brenda is also a programmer for the Watsonville Film Festival and a Mentor for the Latino Film Institute’s Youth Cinema Project. Brenda received a Master’s degree in Social Documentation from UC Santa Cruz.
